Summertime conjures up lazy days at the beach or pool, boating with friends, long walks in the fresh air, biking, running and taking our fitness routines outside. Sometimes, we underestimate our exposure to the sun and end up with a sunburn. Here at Auntie Dolores, we are often asked: can CBD help if I get a sunburn? The answer is yes!

A sunburn is defined as overexposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun. The body reacts with a natural inflammatory response, causing redness and swelling as an increase of blood flow reaches the damaged area. This generally happens 12 – 24 hours after exposure. These symptoms indicate that the body is attempting to fight off impending infection. While this reaction is an example of how inflammation initially protects us, continued inflammation can also result in discomfort and that feeling of pressure just under the skin. Some people also experience digestive upset and/or chills from sunburn. Studies show that CBD can promote a normal inflammatory response from the body, easing discomfort from these reactions while helping to repair and restore the skin.

For optimal results, we recommend a simultaneous external and internal approach. Auntie Dolores Topical Cream, featuring Organic Full Spectrum Hemp CBD Oil, quickly absorbs and provides relief from discomfort while delivering aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil and olive oil to help soothe the affected area. We find it is best to apply to sunburned skin right after a shower or bath, then reapplying every four hours. Our 25 mg CBD capsules or 1500 mg CBD oil every four to eight hours can also help promote comfort from the inside out.

In addition to addressing sunburn, CBD can also address a host of summer skin issues. For example, irritation caused by chlorine or dryness from air conditioning. Apply our Topical Cream liberally and enjoy happy skin!
